New things

As I've never been to Art School (and never will go - can't afford it), I have to force myself to paint/draw everyday. Sometimes it's very difficult because I have no discipline at all and I wish I had a teacher behind me and a very strict timetable.
For me, being an illustrator is my 'last chance' (if you follow my blog, you know that I gave up university (law studies) to follow my dreams) so I put a lot of pressure on myself. Most of the time, I hate everything I do. I have no confidence in my abilities and you can probably see it in my artwork. Every brush stroke are full of worries and fear to fail. I'm often scared I made a bad decision and that I'll never be good enough to get a job... But the support of some amazing people and the few commissions I get really make a difference (Merci beaucoup!). It helps me to continue and makes me want to improve.
(This is not a moan, just a reflection of the worries that goes through my mind from working alone - happens at least once a month. A big thank you to everyone who support me!)

Anyway, here are a few new illustrations and pet portraits!

My first *kind of* self portrait

I've also added some stickers in my etsy shop!

  2. You've come incredibly far and should be really proud of your work! Your painting technique is so perfect and clean in my eyes. I didn't know that you gave up University, I would've never have guessed. I just presumed you'd been to art school because you have a wonderful gift.

It's also really inspiring to me to hear that you decided to follow your dreams. I study Psychology at the moment but I often wonder what it's be like if I'd chosen art instead. Sure psychology is an interest, but art is a passion. And I can't go a day without squeezing creativity into my everyday life. So thank you for this post, it's made me realise that dreams are possible and if you're meant to do something you will get there in the end.

    1. Wow, merci beaucoup Philippa - that's so kind of you to say!
I thought you were an art student too, your watercolours are fantastic (and the coloured pencil illustrations too!).
Following your dreams can be wonderful and really scary at the same time. I don't really know what I will become but (even with the monthly self-doubt) I am much more happier than when I was a law student :)
Thanks again for your lovely comment!

  5. I love the way you capture an object in your illustrations. Your commissioned pug painting made me want to get a pug and I don't even particularly like pugs.
